Process: How to make Friends (Pt.I)
What do you do when the world is falling apart?
First, there are no firsts.
One foot precedes another,
And so we must take note, then take aim.
And plant,
firmly.
One foot to succeed another.
Encounter reality in material terms:
not that fantastical earthy goddess, mama-nature.
Puritan, distilled 99.99% natural
Salvable, sustainable, virgin and untouched.
Nor that electric techno-futurist dream,
constructed in binary abstraction,
floated by decimal collusion
of angels so pure because their feet don’t touch the ground.
I understand it is hard to let go,
To accept through the lip,
our micro-plastic infused intoxication,
our compromised and complicit body of ethic;
debts aggregated, securitised, bonded and laden on the backs of labour,
who, dislocated from Eden, have no more limestone hills to run to,
and so we walk, solemnly down the green-washed mile
to join ranks of consultants, administrators, and governors of the oppressed.
But take note, then take aim,
And plant,
firmly.
One foot to succeed another.
Else we may never encounter something new.
